July 8, 2010

Thank you to all members of the HWE for an outstanding concert on July 3 for the Newark
Independence Day festivities.  A special THANK YOU to the Reese family for making it all
possible.  Thank you to all of the folks at the Newark campus of The Ohio State University and
Central Ohio Technical College.

We would like to invite everyone to attend the Newark Jazz and Ribs Fest this Saturday, July 10,
on the square.  The music begins at noon.  The final band to perform will be The Pastels Big Band,
but for only one song...then the band "officially" becomes The Heisey Wind Ensemble Big Band!

The 20 piece band will be joined by vocalist Kelly Crum Delaveris, considered one of central
Ohio's finest big band singers.  The HWEBB will perform 2 sets from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.  The band
will be announcing future performance dates soon.

Come on down to the square from some great ribs and some great music.

Along with the HWE will be the popular Newark band Sticks and Stones.  A fireworks display will
conclude the evening's festivities.  This event annually attracts several thousand spectators.

7:30 - 9:30 at the Reese Center.

the band's 25th anniversary.

Thank you to State Representative Jay Hottinger, Licking County Commissioner Tim Bubb, and
Newark Mayor Bob Diebold for the proclamations saluting the Heisey Wind Ensemble's 25 years.

Thank you to Dr. Angela Mead, a long time patron of the HWE, for the cake she brought to a recent rehearsal to help celebrate the band's 25th anniversary.

February 22, 2010

Thank you to everyone that attended our "Sound of Music" concert.  It was a special treat to have Matthew Mauro in attendance to hear the HWE perform his latest work "Vision of Hope", which is going to be published by C.L. Barnhouse.

Rehearsals for the band will resume on March 29.

We appreciate everyone that has supported the HWE Capital Campaign this year.  Through many generous donations we have taken care of many of our percussion instrument needs.  To date we have purchased (or had donated) 5 timpani, concert bass drum, drum set, marimba, xylophone, vibraphone, orchestra bells, chimes, crash cymbals, suspended cymbals, bongos, temple blocks, wind chimes and gong.  THANK YOU HWE MEMBERS!

We invite everyone to attend our fourth concert of the 2009-2010 season on April 24 when we present "Happy 25th Anniversary HWE!".  You will not want to miss this special tribute to the HWE celebrating 25 years of presenting outstanding performances.
Conductor Laureate of the HWE, Richard Blatti, will direct a couple of selections on this concert.

We are pleased to announce that the HWE will present a special concert at the Reese Amphitheater on July 3.  This will be part of the Newark 4th of July Celebration, complete with fireworks, that is provided to the community by the Reese family.  The concert has become the highlight of the Independence Day holiday in Newark and annually attracts several thousand spectators. Bring your lawn chairs or blanket and join in all of the fun on July 3.

December 13, 2009

Thank you to everyone that attended our "Christmas, The Joy and Spirit" concert.  It was great to performed to a packed house!  Please join us for "The Sound of Music" on February 20, 2010.  A reminder to all HWE members that rehearsals resume on January 18.

The Heisey Wind Ensemble wishes to say THANK YOU to Jack DiIanni, President of Volkwein Music in Pittsburgh, for his support of our group.  Jack was very instrumental (pun intended) in helping us get our Ludwig Grand Symphonic Timpani, Deagan orchestra bells, Ross rosewood xylophone, Ross vibraphone, temple blocks and Ross chimes. Jack is a big supporter of adult/community bands and just an all-around "good guy", but then again aren't all drummers!

All of the instruments were purchased with funds from the members of the HWE that have contributed to the Capital Fund Campaign.  (see the Patrons page) The bells were a gift of Beth Morris in memory of Paul & Lois Gilbert.  The chimes were a gift of Doug & Nancy Moran in honor
of their parents Gail & Ginny Moran and Jim & Sharon Lowe.

October 26, 2009

Congratulations to all HWE members for an outstanding "Wild Nights!" concert.  Thank you to everyone that attended!  Our next rehearsal will be on November 9 as we begin preparing for our annual Christmas concert.

Thank you to everyone that has supported the HWE by becoming a patron for the 2009-10 season.  A special thank you to all members of the HWE that have contributed to our Capital Fund Campaign. We will soon be posting pictures of some of the wonderful percussion instruments the group now owns as a result of some very generous people.

The following is from an email from Licking County Commissioner Tim Bubb that he recently sent out to his mailing list.  We appreciate the support.  (And Mr. Bubb is indeed a patron of the HWE.)

Let me share a quick word about a community asset now in its 25th year – the Heisey Wind Ensemble.
As the name implies this is a community orchestra with only wind instruments and percussion.
Made up of local talent, men and women from all walks of life, the HWE performs a program of four concerts each year at the Reese Center on the Newark Campus.   Upcoming events include…December 12th their Christmas Concert,  February 20th the theme is The Sound of Music, and next April 24th a Happy 25th Anniversary HWE is planned.
Dr. Russel Mikkelson, of Ohio State University, is the highly regarded conductor.
It is that time of year when the group renews and signs up new patrons.   I would highly recommend their concerts and consideration for adding your support!
Their website is www.heiseywindensemble.org or contact Doug Moran at 740-344-8333 for information.

April 11, 2009

I hope all of the members, patrons, and guests enjoy this web site.  It had its premier on April 11, 2009.  A special thanks goes to John Kennedy and Tom Evans for their tremendous assistance in getting HWE on line.  John provided most of the technical expertise and Tom had many great ideas and suggestions.  Thank you to Don Workman and Doug Moran for providing much of the material found on the site.  Thank you to Kevin Witwer for the photos of the Christmas concert. Please feel free to contact me with any comments or suggestions.

April 3, 2009

With the move from Dension to OSU-N, the Heisey Wind Ensemble will be needing to secure our own percussion instruments.  Thanks to the efforts of Bill Isenhart (suspension stand) and Randall Lamb (drum restoration) we can cross the bass drum off our list.  A big thanks to Doug Moran for providing funds for the eBay purchase of the drum and new heads.

  Before After

We now turn our sights to securing mallet instruments for the section.  Our needs include orchestra bells, xylophone, chimes, vibes and marimba.  Any assistance in finding/funding any of these instruments would certainly be appreciated.  We might even consider making you an honorary member of the HWE percussion section. :)
